Who is Apia? Apia is an insurance company and started in Australia 30 years ago.  It sells insurance to people aged 50 and over and is part of Suncorp. Suncorp is an Australian finance and insurance corporation based in Brisbane, Australia with 13,000 employees across Australia and New Zealand. It started in southwest Queensland as Queensland Agricultural Bank

Who owns Apia?

Apia is owned by Suncorp. Suncorp was owned by the Queensland government until 1997, and in 2000 the government sold its last shares in the company through a public offer. As well as Apia, Suncorp underwrites other insurance brands in Australia, alongside its own Suncorp-branded policies. These include:

Of the insurers in our survey Apia recieved above average results with 65% of home insurance customers who had made a claim in the past 5 years rating them as above average or excellent.

Of the insurers in our survey Apia recieved average results with 70% of car insurance customers who had made a claim in the past 5 years rating them as above average or excellent. 

Does Apia offer discounts?

Apia discounts include:

  • 10% for the first year if you buy car or home and contents insurance online
  • 10% multi-policy discount for two or more eligible policies.
